TThe Crucial Link

The Crucial Link is our newspaper. It is published 3 times annually in October, January and April. It is disseminated to all VMSA members and to many individuals and schools across the nation.


New for 2007 is the online version of The Crucial Link. Use this link to visit The Crucial Link online.


The Crucial Link contains news about state and national middle school issues and happenings, editorials, opinion columns, research abstracts, and sources of practical materials. Several articles submitted by middle school educators and parents about school programs and educational practices appear in each issue. You are invited to submit news articles about your school, classroom, organization or conference. Photographs are especially welcomed.

Directions for News and Manuscript Submissions

Short news articles of about 4 double-spaced pages maximum length describing middle school programs and practices may be submitted for publication consideration. References and tables should follow publication guidelines developed by the American Psychological Association (APA Guidelines--available in most bookstores). Please submit your article as an attachment in Word via e-mail (either Mac or Windows format...preferably Mac) or mail your article in typed hard copy form. Photographs are welcomed.

Publication deadlines for upcoming 2006-2007 issues are: September 15, 2006 (Fall Issue); December 15, 2006 (Winter Issue); March 20, 2007 (Spring Issue.)
